Piran HouseA beautiful Cornish family home by the Helford river with 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a heated 15 metre swimming pool, a heated jacuzzi and a home cinema. A well behaved dog is welcome.
Piran House nestles into a hill above the Helford River, its size beautifully disguised by the thoughtful architectural positioning which gives views over open countryside and down to the creek from the main accommodation and guest bedrooms. The design ensures complete privacy around the 15m heated swimming pool and hot tub so the kids (or adults) can play without concern. Built over three floors, the house has 5 full double bedrooms, a beautifully appointed kitchen, a large gathering area with spectacular suspended log burning fire, and a cinema room out of earshot of the main area. All this in a house built to uncompromising standards, with German engineered doors and windows, means you’ll have a fabulous holiday whether the sun shines or not.
The kitchen has seen the preparation of many large group dinners, some by professional chefs, assisted by top of the line Neff ovens, hob, extractor and microwave and Bauknecht fridge freezer, ice maker and wine fridge, not forgetting the Miele dishwasher to help get things back into shape. The open plan design with the dining area overlooking the kitchen means your whole group can be sociable while dinner is being prepared. Immediate access onto the sunny terrace and its 10 seat dining table, sheltered by a large parasol, means you can follow the sun and enjoy the far reaching countryside views during breakfast, lunch or dinner. Should you find you’ve packed too light or want to reuse clothes, the fully equipped Miele laundry will take care of your needs from washing to drying to ironing.
The dining area, likely to be the hub of social life, is easily large enough to accommodate the entire household around the oak table with Italian designer leather chairs. Full height, opening doors allow access to the the wooden decking and those fabulous views again! As the evening draws to a close, if it’s a little cooler, move into the sitting area of this huge, open plan room and light the unique rotating log fire to create the perfect relaxed atmosphere. Just in case there’s a flat screen TV with Freeview, a Blu Ray player with a large selection of DVDs and an Arcam DAB/CD/iphone player for you to enjoy.
The cinema room, slightly removed from the main gathering area, is the ideal place to put the noisier members of your party, whatever their ages. A huge sofa, chairs and bean bags lounging in front of the large HD Smart TV with cinema surround sound and a particularly large bass speaker means you can recline in comfort while enjoying the Freeview, Netflix subscription or the Apple TV connection if you have your own movies to watch.

The centrepiece of outdoor life is the 15 metre swimming pool, heated to 27 degrees (available from the beginning of May to the end of September) and the 8 seater hot tub both (heated all year round) surrounded by the private gardens and views. Well planned outdoor lighting puts the pool and tub at guests’ disposal day and night, ensuring they enjoy the gorgeous sunsets over the uninterrupted horizon. During the day you can supervise the children from the hotel quality sun loungers around the pool, all the while only a few short steps to the ice making freezer and wine fridge in the kitchen.
And finally when you do feel the need to retire, you’ll be heading to one of five large double bedrooms. Each with its own 6ft Super King bed (divisible into two 3ft beds in one room) and three with their own en suite. The lucky ones will enjoy the master suite with its walk in two person shower, bath, bidet and sink, but don’t worry, the remaining ensuites and large bathroom all share the same high standard of equipment so everyone will be happy.
Piran House is situated on private Budock Vean Lane and benefits from access rights to the beautiful gardens of the Budock Vean Hotel and golf course. A short walk of only 20 minutes brings you to the Ferry Boat Inn, a jewel of a waterside pub overlooking the Helford Passage and Helford Village on the opposite bank. Easily within walking distance are the famous Trebah and Glendurgan gardens with the village of Mawnan Smith and its pub, shop and excellent tapas restaurant only slightly further on. The pristine beach of Maenporth is a 5-10 minute drive and Falmouth with its array of restaurants, pubs and shops and its lively night scene only slightly further afield. Friendly Falmouth taxi firms will provide up to 8 seater taxis should the lure of the big lights tempt you into a night out.
