Poppy CottagePoppy Cottage is a beautifully presented fisherman’s cottage in the heart of Flushing village with a lovely courtyard garden. Fully renovated to a high standard, this traditional 18th Century house retains plenty of original features.
Poppy Cottage is positioned within a row of pretty pastel painted cottages in the quaint harbour village of Flushing. The front of the cottage has an impressive bay window that allows an abundance of natural light into the property. The front door leads straight into the pretty sitting room. Refurbished to a high standard with a light stone floor, white walls and ceiling with beams, the natural light from the bay window is reflected well within this space. The overall feel of the sitting room is that of warm cosy nights in, curling up on the sofa in front of the wood burner with a large glass of wine. The chimney breast is framed by large cupboards on either side. One with a TV, the other boasting shelves full of books on the history of the Flushing village.
Follow the stone flooring through to the rear of the property where the recently fitted kitchen leads out into a bright and airy conservatory. The kitchen itself is spacious with a generous island area and lots of worktop space. The warm wooden cabinets are complemented by a dark granite worktop and the wall units come complete with subtle downlighting to switch up the mood of the space in the evenings. There is a dishwasher, fridge freezer and microwave within the space ensuring guests have an easy and hassle-free stay.
Go through the double doors at the rear of the kitchen and step into the wonderfully light and spacious conservatory. The flooring is continued into this room making the whole downstairs feel like one big space. There is a dining area and a smaller sitting area that make the most of this light space. The roof is glass, half of which is shaded by a wonderful boat sail. There are beautiful, traditional, square framed windows and double doors that lead the eye onto the quaint courtyard. with a variety of plants and outdoor seating. There is also a BBQ to use on summer evenings. The garden shed serves as a laundry room with washer dryer and airing space. It’s a perfect setting to end the day making the most of the late afternoon sun and listening to the sailing boats bob on the water.
Between the front sitting room and the kitchen is the staircase leading to the first floor of the cottage. The upstairs has been refurbished to an equally high standard with light walls, ceilings and a neutral carpet. The master bedroom is at the rear of the cottage and is a good size with fitted wardrobes and double bed. To the side of the bed is also a storage cupboard so guests can easily find space for all their belongings. The room overlooks the pretty courtyard, so wake up to the peace and quiet and relax with a coffee whilst watching the sunlight gently creep in. The feature wall within this room really completes the space, adding texture and subtle colour. The wood cladding effect makes the space cosy and in keeping with the area, whilst subtle pops of colour within the bedding and accessories maintain the modern feel.
The second bedroom has twin single beds and has a slightly more nautical theme. The wood panel effect feature wall is mirrored within this room and therefore, this too is a cosy space. There is sufficient storage space with a large wardrobe and a smaller cupboard. This room overlooks the quiet street in Flushing, so if guests are travelling with young children, they can have peace of mind they too will get a relaxing nights sleep.
The family bathroom has a distinctly nautical feel in keeping with its surroundings, with white tongue and groove walls, a bath with shower, W.C. and basin.
Flushing is a wonderfully traditional Cornish fishing Village. It has two pubs, an excellent seafood restaurant and a well stocked local shop. It would be hard to not want to venture out on a summer’s evening and have a drink in front of the harbour whilst taking in the views that overlook the nearby harbour town of Falmouth. Catch the ferry over to Falmouth where there are several other ferries that sail to the nearby coastal village of St Mawes or the Helford River or stay and explore the many local shops and galleries within Falmouth town centre. The kids will really love experiencing the Maritime Museum with its fantastic exhibitions. Or if in seek of a more active holiday, there are plenty of water sports activities on offer on the local Gyllyngvase Beach.
