The Blue HouseThis spacious house is located just a few steps from the waterfront and is furnished to an excellent standard, with a contemporary, seaside feel to accommodate up to six in comfort and reserved parking.
One of the first properties we discovered in the beautiful village of Flushing, The Blue House holds a special place in our hearts. This substantial property once formed part of a chapel and is now one of four quaint houses nestled at the end of a pretty street as it curves down to meet the waterside.
This stylish three-bedroomed house has been equipped to a very high standard and furnished with great taste and a real eye for detail. Fresh white walls combine with natural wood and slate floors to create a clean, contemporary interior which has been given a seaside feel with shades of soft blue introduced through the cosy soft furnishings and hand-picked local pieces of art dotted around the home. Subtle touches such as fishermen’s lamps and pretty pebble detailing in the bathroom tiles reinforce the theme and add character and style to the property.
The house has been carefully crafted to suit family living. Off the generous hallway, laid with an impressive Cornish slate floor, is a spacious, open-plan lounge/diner. This living space is impeccably decorated to match the same fresh theme as the rest of the interior and boasts particularly lovely features such as a stone fireplace and a polished wooden floor. The dining area houses an extending oak table with leather chairs to comfortably sit six and, in the lounge, a huge sofa and two wing-backed chairs offer a cosy welcome by the wood-burner.
The owners have ensured that you have access to the same level of entertainment as at home and have equipped the room with television with Freeview, a DVD player and a comprehensive DVD and book library. WiFi is also available free of charge.
The kitchen at the Blue House follows the maritime theme, with white contemporary tiling contrasting against painted, soft blue cabinets and a continuation of the high quality Cornish slate floor. A skylight and two windows flood this vaulted room with light, making it a perfect place to sit and enjoy a peaceful, early morning coffee before the rest of the household stirs. Fitted with granite worktops and equipped with built-in appliances including dishwasher and washer-dryer, this spacious kitchen comfortably caters for six people. A high chair is provided for guests with young children.
Should you prefer to take your morning coffee al fresco, a pretty Mediterranean-style courtyard awaits at the rear of the kitchen. Whitewashed walls, thoughtful planting and a generously-sized table with chairs make this a perfect spot from which to enjoy the weather or watch the sun go down with a glass of wine after a day on the beach.
The first floor welcomes you to a contemporary bathroom, fitted to the high standard you will have come to expect from The Blue House. Decorated with a Cornish slate floor, white wall tiles and chrome fittings, this family bathroom is equipped with a deep bath with shower attachment and WC. Quality towels are provided for your use.
There are two bedrooms on this floor, both designed with comfort in mind to ensure that you have adequate storage space during your stay. The double room to the front of the property boasts a king-sized bed, whilst the twin bedroom has a garden aspect to the rear. The Blue House is equipped to cater for families with young children and has a travel cot for guests’ use.
Breath-taking rooftop views of distant Falmouth greet you on the top floor of this generous house, together with an impressive loft bedroom with twin beds and a shower room, equipped to the same standard as the family bathroom, with Cornish slate floor, contemporary white furnishings and chrome fittings. Quality bed linen is provided throughout the property.
Every last detail has been carefully thought out to create a luxurious seaside home from home at The Blue House. We think you will love it just as much as we do.
All parking in Flushing is on-street and free of charge, and guests will usually be able to find a space outside the house or close by without too much difficulty. In addition The Blue House has a reserved parking space approximately 350 yards from the property should it be required.
From the charming coastal cottage, guests are just a moment’s walk away from the local amenities and delights of Flushing village. The local grocery shop stocks all the useful essentials guests could need during their stay, whilst the quayside ‘Waterfront’ Bistro and the Royal Standard and Seven Stars pubs provide a relaxed choice of dining options to complement your self-catering stay. The surrounding area also offers a great selection of eateries and Falmouth offers a tantalising selection of fine fish restaurants to savour.
Enjoying a sedate and welcoming charm, Flushing also features a nostalgic array of village amusements to enjoy including the children’s Pirate play area to the Bowling Green and also the pet-friendly beach at Kiln Quay. The village is well connected by a frequent bus service and a charming passenger ferry service to Falmouth, with connections to St Mawes, Mylor, Trelissick and Truro.
A fantastic range of family-beaches and the 16th century Pendennis Castle can be enjoyed just a short drive or ferry ride away in Falmouth. Nearby the village of Mylor offers a boat hire, chartered yacht service, water sports activities and a sailing school to its marina whilst the historical village of Penryn provides a great place for a morning of coffee catch ups and gallery trips. Penryn also offers a convenient train service to Truro, for the London Paddington line.

The house was exactly as we expected and little touches like the scones left on arrival were so nice. I honestly can’t think of anything you can improve as we loved the house and everything there!
The Blue House exceeded our expectations in every way. The location was superb – Flushing is a really unspoiled Cornish village yet just a hop across the bay on the ferry from the more commercialised town of Falmouth. The ferry incidentally is great fun!
The house was spotlessly clean and extremely well presented – the 5 Star rating from Visit Cornwall was well deserved and the owners are obviously keen to maintain that standard throughout, as when we visited just before Christmas it had been re-decorated throughout and it was absolutely pristine.
High specification kitchen, two lovely bathrooms and comfortable beds made for a perfect stay, and the efficient central heating complemented by the wood burner kept us toasty warm.
Well equipped for self-catering, we loved it here – the best holiday house we have rented by far, and there have been quite a few!
