Description

Discrete, yet perfectly located: Marine Cottage…

Next Door to the 17th Century Parish Church of King Charles The Martyr, Marine Cottage accesses the vibrant, independent shops and fine restaurants, via a short path through the church gates.

The upper floors offer views over Arwenack and Church Street to the open waters of the Carrick Roads, and on to Flushing, Saint Mawes and Pendennis Castle. This fabulous Georgian house is the ultimate ‘Pied-a-Terre”, yet is located just 10 minutes walk from the beach.

Modern luxury with traditional values…

Marine Cottage is arguably one of the most beautifully refurbished houses in Falmouth. A near 2 year restoration plan in partnership with The Cornwall Heritage and Conservation Authority has ensured discrete modern touches blend with the authentic atmosphere of the home.

The team behind the interiors work Internationally, giving an air of “the travelling collector” true to the nature of the captains and seafarers that have lived here before. Plaster and coral tones, offset with aquas and sea grass wall coverings, provide a backdrop for deep sofas, sea shell plaster sconce lighting, and columned fire surrounds.

Bedrooms are well planned; the navy striped “Captains Room” to the rear has a luxury king sized bed enjoying magnificent views of the harbour and sailing waters.

To the front, the “Best Mates” room has two extra large single beds (each 4ft wide) either side of the open fireplace.

Built-in wardrobes fitted with full length mirrors reflect both the incredible views, and a more relaxed you!

Premium quality…..

Egyptian cotton bedding and fluffy towels feature to all of the bedrooms for added “luxury-resort” comfort.

Both bedrooms conveniently share a beautiful 1st floor Carrara Marble bathroom with a tub under the plantation shutters and a large walk in shower, sensor lighting, double towel rails and under floor heating.

The elegant facilities continue with a further WC hidden behind cupboard doors on the lower ground floor, where a marvellous conch shell basin and woven grass walls are waiting to be discovered.

The gorgeous ground floor double sitting room hides its large flat screen TV behind mirrored panels sitting above the log burning stove; perfect to download a great movie and enjoy a cosy night by the fire.

Large sofas, comfortable painted wicker armchairs, a “work-space” console table, large capiz shell chandeliers, faux palms and deep pile rugs create a relaxed, comfortable “far-flung destination” atmosphere; reminiscent perhaps of previous residents voyages and discoveries.

Stairs lead down to the generous kitchen featuring exposed raw Cornish stone walling; an historic structure from a much earlier dwelling upon which the house is built. The hand cut and laid mosaic “fish scale” marble floor is heated from below, stepping down to a sunken seating “sun room” diner.

The double fridge and wine cooler bar helps keep guests entertained, whilst the enamel and brass Italian stove makes preparing delicious meals with local ingredients a delight.

Step out of the sun room, taking steps to the black limestone tree fern courtyard garden, with a rare view of the magnificent church. Relax on the built in seating, or eat al-fresco; perfect for breakfast from the local baker, a fresh seafood lunch, or a dining experience underneath the up-lit ferns and sub-tropical planting

Private off-road parking is only steps away on New Street, where guests have exclusive use of a wider than average parking space.

An envious and convenient location…

Marine Cottage enjoys an envious and convenient location behind the main shopping street, with easy access to Falmouth’s huge array of restaurants. Close by guests will find the award-winning Star and Garter pub serves modern British cuisine with incredible views, and Rick Stein’s eatery, for champagne and oysters or a timeless takeaway of fish and chips.

With one of the deepest natural harbours on the doorstep, guests can easily take to the water with a fantastic range of ways to explore the breathtaking surroundings; private boat hire, river tours, canoe rental, sailing lessons and SUP Yoga. Stand-up paddle boards also provide a fun way to enjoy this area of outstanding natural beauty.

Falmouth’s recent growth to cutting edge ‘Arts and Technology’ town provides a vibrant, year round scene resulting in a huge array of independent shops and farmers markets, watched over by Henry Vlll 16th century Pendennis Castle which also presides over the family-friendly beaches and one of the South West’s finest new spa resorts at Gyllyngvase Beach.

Falmouth is embraced by not one but two designated Areas Of Outstanding Natural Beauty – Roseland Peninsula and The Lizard – and Marine Cottage sits between two frequent ferry services to both. Or simply head to lunch in St Mawes, where the Italian Terraces at Olga Polizzi’s exceptional Hotel Tresanton lead down to the shoreline.

Guests of Marine Cottage are guaranteed to enjoy a captivating 5 Star holiday here in Cornwall’s premiere harbour town.

Testimonials

We had a great time, Marine Cottage was superb, very high standard of accommodation!

Great to have the wood burner……..given it rained every day! No worries with that though as plenty to do and the kids were in the sea most days at Gylly. Plenty of walks and managed a few gym and swims at St Michael’s.

Thanks again for a great stay and Marine Cottage is a great addition to the FHH portfolio!

The Whitehand Family

Marine Cottage is one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever stayed. The interiors are stunning — full of character, thoughtful detail and a real sense of history, yet with every modern comfort you could want. It feels luxurious without being formal, and incredibly welcoming. The bedrooms were gorgeous, the bathroom felt spa-like, and evenings by the log burner were a real treat. A truly special home.

Matthew and Holly

The location of Marine Cottage is unbeatable. Tucked away behind the main shopping street, it felt private and peaceful, yet we were moments from fantastic restaurants, shops and the harbour. Walking through the church gates straight into town was such a lovely touch. The views from the upper floors across the water towards St Mawes and Pendennis Castle were incredible.

James and Amanda Smith

This house exceeded all expectations. Spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable and very well equipped. The kitchen was a joy to use and the courtyard garden was perfect for breakfast and evening meals. Having private off-road parking so close to the house was a huge bonus in central Falmouth. Everything felt carefully considered and high quality throughout.

Lisa and Lee

Marine Cottage feels like a boutique hotel crossed with a private home. Soft lighting, deep sofas, beautiful textures and a wonderfully calm atmosphere. We loved curling up in the sitting room with the fire lit after days exploring the coast. The courtyard garden was magical in the evening, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. A perfect romantic escape.

Mr and Mrs R Tasker

This is the kind of place you want to keep to yourself. Stylish, characterful and full of little details that make it feel special. From the Egyptian cotton bedding to the gorgeous bathrooms and peaceful courtyard, everything was just right. We felt completely relaxed here and would book again without hesitation.

Sarah Lane

Marine Cottage is a five-star stay in every sense. Beautifully restored, incredibly comfortable and in a fantastic central location. Whether you want to explore Falmouth, take ferry trips, enjoy great food or simply relax in a stunning setting, this house is perfect. One of the best holiday homes we’ve stayed in — highly recommended.
